Clinical Psychology
A clinical psychologist visits Park Lodge on Wednesday afternoons and
takes referrals from the GPs and other Primary Care staff.
Clinical psychologists are trained to assess and treat a wide variety
of psychological problems including:
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Phobias
- Obsessions and Compulsions
- Behavioural problems e.g.
- Anger management
- Assertiveness issues
- Relationship problems
- Eating disorders
- Bereavement and other loss
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
If you and your GP think that an assessment could be helpful you will
be given an information sheet and referral form. You will be asked to
fill in the referral form with details about your problem and how it affects
you. Your GP will provide any other details that he/she considers useful.
The waiting time to see the psychologist varies from a few weeks to, more
usually, a few months.
Because the apppointments are limited in numbers and are for one hour
each it is essential that you confirm that you will be attending by telephone
or in person.
Should your problem resolve itself while you wait please tell Christine,
the surgery secretary, ASAP.
Once you are assessed the Psychologist will discuss treatment options
with you. These will include seeing the Psychologist at the surgery for
a few sessions (usually no more than six to eight) or referral onto another
more specialist service.
